I’VE always leaned to the “made” side of the “Are leaders born or made” debate, with some provisos.

I do believe there are inherited physical and/or physiological traits give some people a greater propensity to developing leadership qualities, but we all have free will, so we all have the option to leverage our potential, if we so choose.

In their book, “Naturally Selected – Why some people lead, others follow, and why it matters”  Mark van Vugt and Anjana Ahuju apparently make the case that evolution has determined that some of us will lead, and others follow.

I’ve not read the book yet, so review and comment are pending.  Here, though, is a clip of Mr. van Vugt, explaining the theory.  It’s over 30 minutes long, but that doesn’t seem such a long time to devote to a potentially life-changing idea.

If you’ve read the book already, I’d love to hear what you think.
